Don't Underestimate the Goodness of This Cheeseball

Thanksgiving week has drawn to a close.  For many of us, we won't be seeing some of the food we indulged in until next Thanksgiving:  so much of what we eat for that holiday is specific just to that particular Thursday in November.

However, some of it can transition over to December and join us for all of our Christmas and New Year's festivities.  This cheeseball recipe is one of them.  I plan on making it at least once more in December to bring to a party or to an event.

I made this for Thanksgiving and it was a true hit.  How do I know?  Well, our family Thanksgiving is a food fiesta if ever there was one.  We have family come in from New York and Massachusetts and it's our one "big holiday" all year because it's the only holiday we do with extended family.  In our family, Thanksgiving is bigger than Christmas, and we treat it as such.  We double and triple our recipes to make sure plenty of leftovers exist for the entire weekend.  After eating at 1 or 2, we gather in the living room, take naps, catch up on gossip, watch football, have coffee and beer, and then we take all the food out of the fridge again around 6 or 7.  After eating again, we play games.  As we were taking all of the leftovers out for Round 2 of our Thanksgiving feast, several people asked if there was any more of this cheeseball leftover.  For a lowly cheeseball to be referenced among the many Thanksgiving sides and main dishes, you know it was popular.  In fact, I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like it.

I made this cheeseball years ago, in the early 2000's when I saw Paula Deen appear on an episode of Oprah and whip it up for the audience.  For whatever reason, it entered the rotation and I didn't bring it out again until this year.  I'm glad I resurrected it, because it is ridiculously easy to make and it makes 2 giant cheeseballs.

Here's the original recipe:  Fisher Nutty Bacon Cheeseball.  Here's how I adapted it; mainly, I doubled the amount of cream cheese to make 2 balls instead of 1, I use walnuts instead of pecans and I only roll the ball in walnuts, not walnuts and bacon (I found that the bacon would constantly fall off the cheeseball...instead I just add all of the bacon to the mixture since it gets divided among 2 separate cheeseballs.)

Ingredients:

2, 8 ounce packages of cream cheese, very softened
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (I usually add a bit more, here)
1 jar pimiento, drained
1/4 cup minced green onions
3/4 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped and divided
10 slices bacon, cooked, drained and finely chopped

Directions:

Place softened cream cheese in a large bowl and mix on medium speed for a couple of minutes.  Add milk and mix again.  Add remaining ingredients, including half of the nuts and mix again until well incorporated.

Divide mixture into two.  Turn out onto plastic wrap or non-stick foil and shape into 2 separate balls.  Wrap the balls and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.  After 2 hours, unwrap and roll each ball in the remaining chopped walnuts or pecans.

Serve with crackers.

Enjoy!

  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese , softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup (1 ounce) blue cheese , crumbled
  • 1/4 cup finely minced green onions (white part only)
  • 1 jar diced pimento , drained
  • 3/4 cup Fisher pecans , divided (Of course, any nut will do!)
  • 10 slices bacon , cooked, drained, finely crumbled and divided
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup minced parsley
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds

    Another Photo Evolution

I decided to play around with one of my many photo apps again.  A quick exploration of how this particular photo evolved:

The original photo!  This is unedited in my iPhone.  And yes, my husband is reading a book called "Effective Project Management."  I, on the other hand, can usually be found with something by Maeve Binchy.  Love her!

I moved on to Picfx, where I ran the "Police" filter over it, giving it a nice blue look.

Last but not least, I opened the new photo in Finger Focus.  This app allows you to zoom in on any part of your photo and direct focus on a particular element. In this case, I zeroed the focus in on Seamus, while the rest of the photo remained blurred.

Photo editing:  I just can't stop!  I'm having a great time with it because this is something I never did in the past.  Seriously, how did people survive loading digital photos without their smart phones?  It was such a pain to insert the memory card in the computer, upload everything, then open the file and re-upload everything to a share site.  By the time all that was done, the last thing I wanted to do was any edits.  The exception would be the "auto correct" button in Shutterfly, or occasionally playing around with some color saturation.  I love how instant everything is on the iphone.

You can usually find me playing around with photo editing while I'm watching TV, when I have a quick 5 minutes to myself, or on my days off when I'm relaxing in bed before getting the day started.  It's a new hobby that is holding me hostage!

What Thanksgiving Looked Like For Me

    Handmade Holidays: Sock Snowmen!

    Why hello there, little buddies!

Aren't these snowmen absolutely darling?  Would you believe me if I told you they're made of socks and rice?  They are!  And they're some of my new favorite Christmas/Winter decorations!

I'm going to try to highlight some of my handmade Christmas decorations on the blog for the upcoming weeks.  I'm blessed to have an extremely talented mother-in-law and sister-in-law who have made things for me over the years, plus I recently discovered a craftiness gene that had previously been dormant all my life.  I've made a couple things too, which I will talk about on here.

Mr. My Blog for Bonnie and I have lived in our condo for 10 years next summer.  Let me say that again....TEN YEARS.  I don't know how that's possible, since clearly I am only in my early 20s right now.  Ha!  Time certainly flies, and while you don't always realize it, you start to see it in small ways.  One itsy bitsy way I discovered that a lot of time had passed was by looking at my Christmas decorations from last year.  To be brief:  they had seen better days.  My wreath was kind of mashed and mangled into more of an oval shape than a circle; some of my table runners and random decorations were a little shabby looking.  I decided this year to bring some new things out, some things that represent where I am now that I'm in my early 30s as opposed to my early 20s when we bought this place.  Namely: some handmade items.  Handmade has become a true love of mine.  When I was 22, it would pretty much have taken a true Christmas Miracle for me to walk into a craft store and buy the materials needed to make a wreath, or a quilt, or anything.  I would much rather have bought the items pre-made in a place like Target or Walmart.  Fast forward to 9 years later: when I realized I needed new wreath, I happily went on Columbus Day weekend to buy the materials.  I really liked two fabrics so much that I ended up buying 2 styrofoam wreath bases so I could make two instead of having to choose for just one!  Times, my friends, have changed.

This Sock Snowman idea originally comes from the blog Then She Made.  But really, it comes to me via my sister-in-law.  She found the idea on Pinterest, where it had somehow eluded me even though I pin on there an embarrassing amount of time.  She showed me her finished snowmen and was gracious enough to provide me with 2 extra tube socks she had leftover from her project.  When I furiously texted her "Where do I buy twine for this thing?" her husband very sweetly bought me some from Home Depot, accurately realizing that me strolling through a giant store like that searching for a tiny ball of twine would be like the start of any sprawling Greek tragedy:  the scope and horror of the drama would appall everyone.

I had so much fun making these little guys.  They are so easy and I think they're absolutely adorable!  Click on the link for my sister-in-law to go to her blog post on the Snowmen, where you'll be directed to the post that gives step-by-step details on how to create these.  Check out some additional shots below!

Too cute!  I added a little Bokeh to this shot to make it look like snow was falling on my cute little snowmen.  I'm bizarre like that.

Here's Rupert curiously checking them out just after I finished hot gluing their little hats on.

It's Black Friday, so many people, myself included, will start decorating their homes for Christmas soon.  Enjoy the start of the season!

    A Slight Distraction While Blogging

This is Rupert.  Rupert is one of the friendliest animals I've ever encountered and I love that he's ours!

Rupert, however, doesn't distinguish personal space.

Whenever we're on the laptop, he meanders his way over to us and snuggles between me (or Mr. My Blog for Bonnie) and the laptop.  He then starts purring, meowing and cuddling with us while we're trying to get some work done.

It's nice to be so loved, but sometimes you just want to hammer out a post on your blog! (or pay a bill, or send off an e-mail, check your bank statements....)

Thanks for the computer cuddle, Rupert!

And it's back to cooking I go!  Happy Thanksgiving!!

Next Time You're at Target, Pick This Up!

A post devoted to hand soap?  Yes.

I have been loving this hand soap ever since I picked it up on a whim a couple of weeks ago.  I was searching for a holiday-scented soap for the kitchen and while I was at Target, I went strolling through the aisle to check out what they had.  I discovered this line by Motif.  They have several holiday scents, but the one I picked up was Peppermint Bark.

It is the best soap ever!  Sometimes peppermint-scented things can be super strong and almost clinical smelling.  This one combines a soft peppermint scent with some white chocolate and milk chocolate undertones.  It smells like a snowy day in December when you're about to start baking some cookies.  Seriously.  I know how hyper cliche that is, but it's true.  It's just the perfect December scent.

I tried to post a link on here but there isn't a direct link to Target.  When I googled Motif, I found some press releases from 2010 announcing that they would start carrying their holiday scents at Target.

The best part?  This hand soap is only $2.99!  It's a revelation...pick it up in the Peppermint Bark scent and prepared to be thrilled each and every time you wash your hands!

    iPhone Weekend

I thought I'd post my weekend iPhone fun early on Sunday morning.  Yesterday was a busy day full of errands, but today, we're collectively holding our breath and relaxing before the craziness of Thanksgiving week hits us.

I'll be cooking the sweet potatoes for quite a lot of people, plus making an absolutely awesome cheese ball for an appetizer.  I'll probably post the recipe for that later, because it will work for any and all holiday parties as the season kicks off.

We're taking it easy on cooking this week since I'll be cooking quite a bit on Wednesday in preparation for Thursday.  We are, however, making enchiladas for Monday and Tuesday.  Yum!  I figured we'd pick something drastically different from the American Comfort Food Fiesta that is Thanksgiving.  I seriously can't wait to dig into some enchiladas tomorrow night!

My friend Sue had her birthday party at La Strada in downtown Cleveland last night.  We had an absolute blast on the upper level.  It was also a Masked Party...see the photo below for our get-ups!

    East 4th at night.

I went shopping for Thanksgiving early Saturday morning.  And while the store was busy, I had the egg nog section to myself! Ahhh...egg nog.  A sign of glorious things to come!

    Silly Seamus.

    Masked Birthday Party fun!

    A Dinner Suggestion

No, I don't have a photo of this, but yes, I think you should absolutely make it for dinner sometime soon.

This is the world's most simple sandwich, and I can't believe I didn't discover it until just this year.

To set the scene:  Mr. My Blog for Bonnie and I went on an early anniversary trip to Niagara Falls this spring.  We got to Niagara Falls all the time.  Like at least once a year, if not twice. We just love it there and can't get enough!  Our time there traditionally falls into two categories:  we spend a day at Niagara Falls, and then the next day we head to little villages in Canada further away from the Falls, like Niagara-on-the-Lake.

It was here (actually in the nearby village of Virgil) that we stopped at a random little bakery cafe that our friends recommended to us when they went on a weekend trip the area.  My husband ordered this sandwich, and it was heaven on earth.  This is what it is:

    Brie and Ham.

That's basically it, y'all.  (yes, I just used that term and, yes, I'm a resident of Ohio.  But maybe I can get away with it because my dad hails from Texas and one of my besties lives down there? No?)

What makes this so exquisite is its simplicity.  Here's what you do: buy a small wheel of brie from the grocery store and cut it into thin slices. Get good quality ham from the deli.  And get long sandwich rolls, like the type for subs, hoagies or whatever you want to call them.  Put a slice of brie on each side of the long roll and the ham in the middle.

This is so, so good and it never ceases to amaze me.  I think what works is the combination of the saltiness of the ham with the creaminess of the brie.  And the brie with the soft white bread certainly adds to the Wowza Factor. (actual term).

I guess you coullllld add a healthy element and put arugula or some other type of greens on it.  But really, it's so perfect as it is.  You'll feel like you're eating in a tiny bistro bakery in Canada, but really you're in your own kitchen on a crazy weeknight with a thousand things to do after dinner and the holidays looming.

    Try it!

5K Playlist for the Last Run in Awhile

So I decided to work out on Sunday, for the first time in about a month.  October was essentially a month of bizarre viruses in my house, and while I'm not totally convinced Mr. My Blog for Bonnie and I had the flu in its conventional definition, I will concede that what we had was way worse than any cold I've ever experienced.  While I only had a low-grade fever for a couple of hours during the multiple week ordeal, my husband ran a fever for many of the days, which leads me to think that maybe it was indeed the flu virus in a non-traditional form, popping up for an October Surprise that derailed our entire month.  While I'm feeling 100% better, I still have daily signs that things aren't exactly as they used to be.  For one, ever since getting sick, I've been fatigued more often, usually crawling into bed a half hour or so before I usually do, even on the weekends.  I've always been a huge proponent and devotee of naps, but whereas before I'd take a quick 20 minute cat nap, lately I've been falling asleep for 45 minutes to an hour on the weekends. Blissful, I assure you, but just not "right" in terms of my everyday pattern!

Usually after being sick, I am beyond eager to jump back into my routine at full force.  This time, however, I was unlike myself for so long that I didn't want to do anything that would jeopardize the progress I was making in feeling better.  So, no working out.  This is usually difficult for me.  Since getting in the habit of regularly exercising, I'm almost always that jerk who "just doesn't feel right" if she skips a workout.  This time around, I wasn't hard on myself at all.  I lost a few pounds during the illness and maintained the loss (and my weight in general) over the past four or five weeks by making sure I really watched what I ate.  It's kind of been a revelation for me that I was able to maintain it just by doing that.  I'm so used to combining watching what I eat with exercising that it was glorious to see that keeping just one end of the bargain got me results.  And, in a way, it makes sense.  I was doing P90x up until getting sick, which was such an intense program that it actually warns you to make sure you're eating enough calories everyday to compensate for all the ones you're burning.  While I wasn't going overboard in the eating department, I certainly did fall into the occasional pattern of being like, "I can totally eat this! After all, I'm going to work out for an hour tonight!"  I've heard that overcompensating that way when you're a daily exercise enthusiast is pretty common.

Regardless, I know exercising is good for me and I really love the feeling after a great workout.  Since I've been putting it off for so long, I was kind of nervous about going for my first run in a long time.  But I really couldn't resist:  Sunday was another bright, sunny day with temperatures in the low to mid 60s.  It was probably the last really good "running weather" we'll have until next March.

I laced up my running shoes and hit the pavement.  While I couldn't bust out as many miles as I usually can, I still felt really good after running one mile and walking about another half of one.  The best part is, I got to listen to my 5K Playlist!  I'm sharing it below because I think there are some really great tunes to run along with in here.  Enjoy!

    iPhone Weekend

So this was a really great weekend!  For starters, it's a long weekend, which is why this post is going up on a Monday instead of Sunday.  Also, I got to spend a lot of time with people who matter very much to me.  On Saturday, we went to dinner with my family to Don's Pomeroy House.  This is definitely a "special occasion" type of restaurant, but we were celebrating two things.  First, my brother found out he passed the Ohio Bar Exam and was recently sworn in as an attorney for the state of Ohio.  That's right: my baby brother is a lawyer!  That only makes me feel sliiiiiightly geriatric to say!  All joking aside, he worked so hard to reach this goal.  Even when he was in high school, he knew he wanted to eventually become a lawyer, making him one of the maybe 5% of people who actually do what they wanted to do when they were younger.  Yay for him!  We also celebrated the fact that my husband got a new job!  He's been at his current company for over 7 years.  It's a great place to work, but it's also far from home.  His new company is much closer to our house and will provide a lot of valuable experience for his career.  The process was long....we knew he was in the running for the position for about 6 weeks before finally getting the news that they were offering it to him!  What a relief to hear the news and I am so excited for him!

Dinner at the Pomeroy House was a special Fixed Price menu for Cleveland Restaurant Week.  We each got to choose 3 courses.  I had the Red Chowder, Filet Mignon and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.  Mr. My Blog for Bonnie had the Stuffed Mushrooms, Swordfish and Chocolate Mousse.  The rest of my family had several combinations of other dishes that were offered.  Yum!  It was so nice to celebrate some good news because this hasn't been the best of years for my immediate family.  Granted, given the state of affairs that a lot of people have found themselves in the midst of, we are lucky.  But we've still had some crappy curveballs thrown our way.  It's glorious to be ending the year with some awesome news!

On Sunday, I got to get together with 2 of my amazing friends from high school! (Bonnie, of the My Blog for Bonnie title of this blog, is also a very close friend from high school!)  These two particular friends, though, went downtown to see Beauty & The Beast with me.  I actually saw this show back in like 1996 when it first came out.  I saw it with my mom in Toronto.  It was great then, and while I don't remember all of it, I remember enough to know that they updated it a lot more in this revival.  There were a lot more special effects and the set design was different overall.  We loved it!  Before the show, we walked around Euclid Avenue looking for a place to get coffee.  We ended up going into a new restaurant called Cowell & Hubbard.  Instead of coffee, we treated ourselves to drinks.  I had the "Peach Pomme Grenade" which consisted of Peach vodka, Chamomile, Pomegranate juice, Lemon and Canton.  I loved it!  The restaurant itself was very hip and modern.  Lots of dramatic lighting and red upholstered seats.  I love that these 2 girls used to goof off with me in Spanish 5 (though it was deemed an Advanced Placement course, I think we can all agree that no advanced learning ever took place.  Unless you count making enchiladas as a class in the home-ec room or watching 'Como Agua Para Chocolate' as intensive Spanish training).  And flash forward a lot of years later, we are still goofing off and laughing as much as we did then.  I had such a fun time that it was easier to stomach the fact that I stumbled into a $20 parking lot by accident and had to fork over that amount of money just to park my car.  Ack!  Oh well, at least I was directly across from the theater, which made getting home a breeze!

It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

Today is a beautiful fall day, the type we don't usually see as much of in November as we do in October.  The temperature is a gorgeous 63 and the sun is shining.  Given all that, it makes it extra hard to believe that we're very quickly starting to stare Thanksgiving in the face.  That's right...my absolute favorite holiday is less than two weeks away!

Christmas is always encroaching its way into our lives as soon as Halloween is over, but once Thanksgiving winds down, forget it.  It's here, in its full-blown and festive manner.

So when I stopped over my mom and dad's house this morning so Mr. My Blog for Bonnie could help them with a computer issue (I believe this is the #1 duty of all sons-in-law, to help their in-laws with computer glitches) I was so thrilled to see my mom already had a Christmas decoration up.

Turns out she got this pre-lit decoration from a local Christmas craft fair about a weekend ago.  She liked it so much that she's left it plugged in on their brick fireplace ledge ever since.  Me being me, I recognized a chance to play around in Color Splash and took a photo.  Here it is!  Cue "Merry Christmas, Darling" by The Carpenters....

Baking for the Holidays: Cranberry Bliss Bars

It's November and I, for one, don't think it's too early to start baking for the holidays!  It helps that it's November in Ohio, which right now means it's super chilly, winter-coat-type weather.  With the time change this past weekend, it's now pitch black at 6 pm.  It seems like we're moving into winter at a very rapid pace.  Is Thanksgiving really only a little over 2 weeks away??  Pretty soon homes and neighborhoods will be alight with Christmas decorations, and Holiday music will be playing in stores and cars.  So, given all that, it isn't too early to be getting in the spirit, right?

I started out with a holiday baking recipe that's perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas and even into January:  Cranberry Bliss Bars.  If you, like me, have ever popped into a Starbucks from November through Christmas, you've seen these bars in their bakery case.  Seeing them every year is almost more exciting to me than seeing the famous pumpkin spice latte each September.  I think it's because the Cranberry Bliss Bars are so festive looking...white frosting dotted with ruby red cranberries...  They just look like winter!  Better yet, they go great with a cup of coffee!

About a year ago, I joined Pinterest.  My sister-in-law invited me and this recipe was one of the first that I pinned and actually tested out.  We got new carpeting installed last Veteran's Day weekend, and I shut myself in our bedroom as the workers got down to business and went what can only be described as berserk on that site, pinning basically everything under the sun!  I think I made these bars the very next day.  I gave some to my parents, who loved them, and took them into work, where everyone enjoyed them also.  I'd say that from last November to January, I probably made these about 4 times.

This recipe comes from Recipe Girl and you can check out her recipe and method here.  I've done pretty much the same thing as the original recipe, with a couple of notable exceptions.  First, she calls for baking the bars in a 9x13 pan, which would replicate the thin-sized bars that Starbucks serves.  For whatever reason, I baked them for the first time in a 9x9x2 pan.  The pan, obviously, is slightly larger than an 8x8 but not as large as the 9x13.  I think this makes for the perfect thickness for the bars.  If you like them on the thin size, by all means go with the 9x13 pan.  Additionally, at the end she calls for melting some extra white chocolate to add to the frosting and drizzle on top of the finished frosting.  I omitted that because I realized that if I did, I'd have an extra 6 ounces of white chocolate, which translated into enough for another batch at some other point.  I don't miss the white chocolate at all: the bars are perfect without it!

I whipped them up this week with our fireplace blazing.  I also, for the first time, tuned into Pandora and listened to a Christmas station.  It was so much fun, and a great sample of what's to come in the very near future:  namely, lots of baking for others and for the season.  Only what's great about making these now is that I also don't have a laundry list full of other seasonal responsibilities hanging over my head:  shopping for gifts, wrapping gifts, decorating, making side dishes, dashing out to parties, etc.  It was so relaxing to bake these without any other holiday obligations looming!

I'm looking forward to making these at least a few more times in the next 8 or so weeks!

First Sun in a Week and a Restless Night

Last night, for the first time in about a week, we saw some sun.  I noticed it on my drive home from work and was actually stunned that I had to pull my sunglasses from my purse and wear them on my face!  With Hurricane Sandy, we've seen rain, rain and nothing but rain for the longest time...and we aren't even on the east coast!  So it was blissful to see the sun, and even more enjoyable to see a sunset, which I snapped below (in 39 degree temperatures, by the way).

I also had the whole place to myself last night because Mr. My Blog for Bonnie had a work dinner that went until about 8:30 pm and didn't arrive home until 9:30 pm.  This was his first day back to work all week after being hit with the mutant flu virus that wiped out entire weeks of our lives, so I felt badly that it had to be such a long day.  Nevertheless, my intentions were to catch up on shows I DVR'd this week, read the news online, etc...  I was so annoyed to discover our cable and internet were out!  And seriously, guys, I know I have ZERO right to complain when so many in my area (including my own parents!) are still without power.  But it was a bummer.

I consoled myself by opening a bottle of wine to have a glass, only to discover that it tasted vaguely like poison.  I bought this bottle back at the Ohio Wine Festival in August and I sampled it at one of the booths.  It must have been a bad batch or something.  Do you know how sad it is to pour an entire bottle of wine down your drain?  Wasting anything is bad news, but wine? Boo!

And herein lies my mistake:  I decided to have coffee instead.  Let me tell you right now that caffeine has traditionally never had the same effect on me as it has on other people.  I drink it in the morning, but it doesn't get me wired.  Since I've been married, I've been able to have it right before bed and still fall asleep like I haven't slept in days.  I think you know where I'm going with this...the caffeine affected me FOR SURE last night.

The only thing I can attribute it to is that my body chemistry altered a little bit with that horrible flu.  And really, I'm only half-kidding.  Something that nasty that took weeks to get over surely left me a little altered, right?  Because how else can I explain that for the first time ever yesterday, I felt my heart beating in my ears as I attempted to sleep?

Let me tell you the worst part.  We have a book at school where I teach...it's really more of a flipchart with an accompanying CD.  As a teacher, I'm aware that it isn't the most developmentally-appropriate of tools: we strive to have an emergent curriculum based on the children's interests, not our own, and sitting them down to learn about the alphabet isn't exactly something any child would choose for him/herself.  However, another classroom had the flipchart and it went over like the greatest party on earth every time they played it for their kids, and it was a great way for the kids to begin very early letter recognition.  My boss ordered us a copy from amazon and we've been using it every since.

To say it's the most popular language activity in our classroom is an understatement.  Sometimes I'll say "Okay friends, let's clean up so we can do our ABC flipchart," and literally the entire classroom breaks into thunderous applause and cheering.  (PS:  I love a job where you get cheered and generally treating like a celebrity when you say something cool or even just walk through the door...that is early childhood teaching in a nutshell, my friends.)

As a consequence, I have pretty much memorized this flipchart.  Each letter of the alphabet is assigned a song set to the tune of a popular children's song.  So, the letter "C" becomes "Can You Bake a Cake?" set to the tune of "Do Your Ears Hang Low?"  and "J" is "James and Judy" set to "Frere Jacques."  I know the words to all of the songs for each letter of the alphabet, and what's more, almost all of my kids do too!  Keep in mind, some of my kids aren't even 2 yet!  A lot of them look at the letters and say "H for Hannah!" or "A for Addison!" (which is how they associate letters at this point...with the first letter of their name or their friends' names, but still, a 2 year old recognizing letters is amazing!)

So, you guessed it, last night ALL of these little ditties were running through my head while I tossed and turned.  It's a pretty cool trick for me to bust out a song for each letter of the alphabet, and I'll do it for your child if you ask me, but let me tell you, it is an atrocious thing to be doing when you can't sleep!

After seeing my husband off to work at 6:15 am, I went back to bed for another hour and of course I had horrific nightmares.  Sigh.  I'm so glad it's Friday....here's to never having caffeine again before bed!!

Ahh, the first sunset after 7 straight days of rain & darkness!
